Multicolored Bill Makes Commuters See Red

Share
From Staff and Wire Reports

The new multicolored $20 bill is causing some grief among commuters because many public ticket vending machines still do not recognize the currency.

Bay Area Rapid Transit system officials are asking customers planning to purchase tickets with the new bill to use the “bill to bill” changers available at every station. The bill changers will accept the new money and trade it for money that ticket machines will recognize -- $5 bills.

BART plans to install new ticket machines that will be programmed to accept the new notes at all 43 of its stations by early next year.
