WHEN UCLA HAS THE BALL

The Bruins should have no trouble moving the ball, but quarterback Drew Olson probably won’t throw too often in the direction of cornerback Michael Jolivette, who has 11 career interceptions and is Arizona’s career leader in passes defended with 41. With four attractive targets in Craig Bragg, Junior Taylor, Ryan Smith and Marcedes Lewis, Olson should have plenty of options if Jolivette is covering his man well. If UCLA builds a big halftime lead, look for Matt Moore, recovering from a knee injury, to get significant playing time at quarterback.

WHEN ARIZONA HAS THE BALL

Though the Wildcats were blown out last week, the offensive line made some progress, giving up no sacks, the first time in 23 games the Washington State defense was unable to get to the quarterback. Arizona needs that kind of protection because the Wildcats have a true freshman quarterback in Kris Heavner, who has completed 37 of 76 passes for 459 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions. Only five other true freshmen have started for Division I-A teams this season. The loss of strong safety Jarrad Page, who has a sprained right shoulder, could hurt UCLA.

KEYS TO UCLA VICTORY

Avoid mental letdowns: The Bruins have vowed to take the lowly Wildcats seriously; they have to back those words with actions and not give Arizona any hope of an upset.

Fluster the freshman: UCLA could take Arizona out of the game early if the Bruin defense puts pressure on quarterback Heavner, who will be making his third college start.

Dominate the line: The offensive line could make things a lot easier for the Bruins -- and their overworked defense -- if it opens up holes for running backs Manuel White and Tyler Ebell and UCLA can mount a few time-consuming drives.
