Allison, Deadmarsh Miss Morning Skate

The Kings’ early-morning club was smaller than usual Wednesday.

Forwards Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh did not skate with other injured players in non-contact drills before the rest of the team took the ice, as has been the recent norm.

Neither Allison (whiplash) nor Deadmarsh (concussion) has fully recovered from injuries they sustained last season, but Deadmarsh did not skate Wednesday partly because he aggravated a groin injury that bothered him the first week of training camp.

“Adam hurt his groin the other day in practice,” Coach Andy Murray said. “He’s been going so hard in practice. It felt a little sore.

“Jason just didn’t feel as good today as he has felt the last few days. He decided he wouldn’t skate.”

Allison will be creating his own timetable, a schedule of sorts, Murray said.

“What we’ve told Jason is to follow a path that makes him feel the best,” Murray said. “We’ve kind of almost asked him to script out what he has to do. There’s nothing the doctors can do or say. When he doesn’t feel right, he shouldn’t practice and when he feels good he should practice. That’s the advice they’ve given him.”

Forward Michael Cammalleri skated vigorously Wednesday for the first time since spraining a ligament in his left knee Sept. 21 in an exhibition game against the San Jose Sharks.

Cammalleri worked out with coaches’ aide Nelson Emerson in a series of non-contact drills. Cammalleri is still about a month away from being ready, Murray said.

Cammalleri, the Kings’ second-round selection in the 2001 draft, was having a solid training camp until he was injured after taking a hip check against the Sharks.

“I wanted to contribute to the success here and it was going pretty well,” Cammalleri said. “You want something pretty bad and this put the damper on it. The way I look at it, it wasn’t a roadblock, it was more of a little hump to get over, a little delay.”

Prospect Jared Aulin, out with a dislocated shoulder since Sept. 4, might not play for the Kings because of the nature of his injury, Murray said. Aulin’s recovery time was up to six months.

“I don’t know if we’ll see Jared Aulin this year,” Murray said.

Center Esa Pirnes, the Kings’ sixth-round selection in the June draft, has played in four NHL games, but he is already in the record books.

Pirnes became the first player in NHL history to attempt a penalty shot in consecutive games. He missed both times -- last Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
