Metallic Lion Is Mane Attraction in Trials

Metallic Lion, who has won five of eight starts, heads a group of 66 2-year-olds competing in tonight’s trials for the Golden State Futurity.

There will be eight 400-yard trials with the 10 fastest qualifiers moving on to the $864,850 final Oct. 31.

Trained by Paul Jones for Anjora Corporation, Metallic Lion will compete in the first of the trials, the second race on the program.

The son of Apollo was second to Willie Works in the California Juvenile Challenge in his most recent start Aug. 29.

In the fifth trial, Babe On The Fly, second to Hawkish in the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity on Oct. 4, will meet a field that includes Summertime Fly and Feet of Flames.

Four! First Alarm-Adriannas Strawfly entry and Scarlet Special in the first, Metallic Lion and Shyann Cash in the second, Make It Work, Pencilmein and A Very Kool Chick in the third and Be a Bono and Sandy Took The Cash in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Tabasco Traffic makes her first start since an impressive win in New Mexico in the fifth. Mr Two Tacs makes his debut for trainer Chuck Treece in the 10th.
