Hit-and-Run Suspect Said to Be Hiding in S.F.
The female suspect in a hit-and-run incident that left two siblings dead is believed to be hiding in San Francisco.
Jimena Barreto, 45, of Walnut Creek was driving to her nanny job at 7 p.m. Sunday when she drove onto a sidewalk and fatally injured Alana Pack, 7, and her brother, Troy, 10, Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said Monday.
Their mother and two other children were also hit by Barreto’s car, authorities said. It’s unclear if they suffered any injuries.
According to witness accounts, after the accident Barreto stopped a short distance away, left the car with its lights on and talked with other adults who had stopped to help. She then got a ride from a car heading in the opposite direction.
A cab driver later told police that he had dropped off Barreto at the Walnut Creek BART station. Barreto was later seen on Lombard Street, Lee said.
