Stackhouse Is Sidelined

The Washington Wizards placed swingman Jerry Stackhouse on the injured list Monday, ruling him out for the first five games.

Stackhouse had scar tissue removed during surgery on his right knee on Oct. 22, and there is no timetable for his return.

The New Orleans Hornets placed Jamal Mashburn on the injured list because of a bone bruise in his right knee.

The Toronto Raptors waived centers Hakeem Olajuwon and Stanley Roberts. Olajuwon retired last season and waiving him was a formality.... The New Jersey Nets picked up the options on the contracts of forward Richard Jefferson and center Jason Collins for next season. If the Nets hadn’t acted, the players would have become free agents after this season.... Guard Desmond Mason signed a three-year contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks.... The Boston Celtics exercised the fourth-year option on the contract of Kedrick Brown, who will open the season as their starting small forward.... The New York Knicks released center Travis Knight, a member of the Lakers’ 2000 championship team.
