Ambassador Hotel Site Needed for New Schools

Share

Re “Landmark Awaits New Role,” Sept. 2: What happens to the Ambassador Hotel is up to the Los Angeles Unified School District. It bought the hotel and it should be able to decide what happens to the property. If the L.A. Conservancy thought it to be such a historic site, then the conservancy should have bought it or made arrangements to preserve it. Why is a building that was frequented by the Hollywood elite so historic, anyway? Why didn’t the community save it?

If the Cocoanut Grove was such a storied nightclub, why is it abandoned now? I think a memorial to Robert Kennedy is in order, but other than that, it’s the school district’s business now, and the district needs schools to educate our children. Please don’t let the Hollywood myths get in the way. It’s over; find yourself another bauble.
