Country, old and new, at county fair

From a Times Staff Writer

Two generations of country music fans have something to hear at the L.A. County Fair, which is scheduled to open Friday in Pomona. For classic country fans, no less than the original outlaw himself, Willie Nelson, will perform Sept. 26. For contemporary country tastes, superstar Brad Paisley makes an appearance Sept. 19.

More than time separates the singer-songwriters. Nelson had been making records for nearly 20 years before his first hit in 1975, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.” Paisley, on the other hand, did a college internship at ASCAP’s Nashville office, got a recording contract and was only 26 when his million-selling debut album “Who Needs Pictures” was released in 1999.

Other music acts scheduled to perform at the fair include War, the B-52’s, Earth Wind & Fire and others.
