Wochner leaves theater group

After nearly three years, Lee Wochner has resigned effective Sept. 26 as president and CEO of L.A. Stage Alliance, the theater support organization formerly known as Theatre L.A.

Wochner told The Times that he had raised the organization’s visibility and broadened its mission but is eager to return to writing plays, consulting and spending more time with his family.

The group’s cash flow “hasn’t caught up with its expansion,” board member Ernest Dillihay said. “But Lee has done a very good job.”

Vice Chairman Larry Aldrich said several donations and loans from board members since Sunday have “much improved our financial situation.” Wochner referred all questions about finances to the board, which will seek a replacement.

Among other projects, L.A. Stage Alliance sponsors the annual Ovation Awards. Wochner did not attend the ceremony Tuesday at which the nominations were announced.
