$650,000 Is Donated to Save School Programs
The West Contra Costa Unified School District has received nearly $650,000 in donations to help save sports, libraries, music and counselors.
Officials said Tuesday that the biggest donation came Monday in a $500,000 check from the San Francisco Foundation on behalf of an anonymous donor.
Most of the foundation’s donation is earmarked for preserving limited library services next year, said Ruth Vedovelli, assistant superintendent for fiscal services.
Donations have poured in to the district since the board’s March 8 decision to eliminate the programs to help stave off $16.5 million in cuts. The district was the first in California to eliminate high school sports.
