Mladin Wins Yamaha Pole
Suzuki rider Mat Mladin continued his domination of the California Speedway motorcycle circuit Friday by winning the pole for today’s Yamaha Superbike Challenge main event with a lap of 97.230 mph around the 21-turn, 2.36-mile infield course.
Mladin, who lives in Rancho Cucamonga, won last year’s pole and both 100 kilometer AMA championship events en route to a fourth national championship. Mladin will lead the field off today at 3:40 p.m. in the Yamaha West Region Dealers 100k.
Second fastest was Honda veteran Ben Bostrom, more than a second slower than Mladin.
Another superbike qualifying session this morning will set the field for Sunday’s Yamaha 100k.
Jack Zemke, on a Honda, took the pole for today’s Formula Xtreme 60k final. He averaged 94.76 mph for the 17-lap race that will follow the superbike final.
Qualifying for Sunday’s superstock and supersport 60-kilometer races will begin today at 8:30 a.m.
