Duke’s Alana Beard and Connecticut’s Diana Taurasi are among five finalists for the inaugural women’s John R. Wooden Award, given to the nation’s top college basketball player.

Beard helped the Blue Devils to a 30-4 record, the No. 1 ranking in the season’s final AP poll and the NCAA tournament regional final. The 5-foot-11 senior already received player of the year honors from the AP and the Wade Trophy.

Taurasi led the Huskies to tonight’s national championship game against Tennessee.

The other finalists are Penn State’s Kelly Mazzante, Stanford’s Nicole Powell and Purdue’s Shereka Wright.
