Barry Bonds wasn’t going to get a chance to win this game -- Milwaukee Manager Ned Yost made sure of it.

Bonds took most of the game off after hitting his 661st home run Tuesday night, but the San Francisco slugger did pinch hit in the Giants’ 3-0 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday at San Francisco.

What did he get?

An intentional walk.

“The situation dictated it,” said Yost, who wasn’t surprised to see Bonds make an appearance. “We weren’t going to pitch to him today no matter what. I tried to go over every scenario.”

The walk to Bonds loaded the bases with two out in the seventh, bringing up pinch-hitter Edgardo Alfonzo, who flied out to center.

Milwaukee’s Geoff Jenkins provided the only home run, helping the Brewers avoid a three-game sweep.

Wes Obermueller (1-1) gave up three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

He also contributed a run-scoring single and a sacrifice bunt for the Brewers.

Jeff Bennett and Dan Kolb completed the club’s first shutout since Aug. 31 against the Cubs at Chicago. Kolb was perfect for his third save in three chances.

Houston 11, St. Louis 1 -- Wade Miller (2-0) won his fifth consecutive start against St. Louis, Lance Berkman homered for the second consecutive game and Jeff Bagwell also homered to lead the Astros to a three-game sweep of the Cardinals, who dropped to 1-6 at home.

Chicago 8, Pittsburgh 3 -- Aramis Ramirez homered twice, Moises Alou also homered and Matt Clement (1-1) gave up two hits in six innings in the Cubs’ first victory at Wrigley Field.

Atlanta 6, New York 1 -- Rookie Dewayne Wise sparked a five-run, third-inning rally with a triple and Andruw Jones drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and a double to support John Thomson (1-0) at New York.
