Greener pastures for ‘Range’

In the post-”Passion,” post-”Hellboy,” pre-”Punisher” realm, a different movie has corralled the top spot at the box office this week: “Home on the Range.”

Disney, much maligned for the underwhelming debuts of the last of its hand-drawn animated features and the troubled historic saga “The Alamo,” can take some solace in the fact that the company’s strategy of always having a family film in theaters around Easter, when kids are out of school, has paid off, if only modestly.

Since Monday, “Home on the Range” has taken in more money each day than any other title, and Tuesday and Wednesday it was the only movie to generate more than $1 million nationwide.

As of Wednesday, the movie, which features the voices of Roseanne and Judi Dench as cows trying to save their farm from bankruptcy, had grossed $31.4 million since its release April 2.
