SUV Driver Sought in Long Beach Hit-Run Accident

Long Beach police were searching Thursday for the female driver of a light-colored Lexus sport utility vehicle that struck and critically injured a teenager Wednesday night and then fled.
The driver of the newer model SUV, which had dark-colored molding around the bottom, was a white woman in her early to mid-20s, said Long Beach Police Officer Greg Schirmer.
The victim, Garrett Mathieu, 18, of Lakewood remained in critical condition Thursday at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Schirmer said Mathieu, who was on foot, was running against the red light across Lakewood Boulevard at its intersection with Arbor Road when he was hit by the SUV, which did not stop, as required by law.
“She had the green light,” Schirmer said. “The main problem here is she drove away. She should have known that she hit something. [Given] his injuries, there’s most likely damage to the vehicle.”
Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at (562) 570-7358.
