From Times Staff Reports

RIVERSIDE COUNTY

The county’s executive office has appointed a well-known Riverside attorney to investigate allegations of racism, corruption and favoritism that have been lodged against Human Resources Director Ron Komers.

Jack B. Clarke Jr. will review the charges, which were aired at a regular Board of Supervisors meeting this week by Debrah Freeman, the county’s employee relations manager.

Freeman, who has been on leave for undisclosed reasons since March and works for Komers, alleged that he made and condoned racist statements; discriminated against black people in hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions; and used his position to receive criminal-defense services for his stepson and to give his son’s company a no-bid contract.
