State Librarian Kevin Starr

Re “The California Dream’s Great Explorer,” Commentary, April 13: Kevin Starr is indeed California’s living treasure -- from his masterful books on California and its people to the many magnificent libraries constructed under his tenure as state librarian to the thousands of lives and minds that he has stimulated in our state’s classrooms and public forums.
If that were not enough, Starr has always been there for us, his fellow California historians. His unyielding encouragement, support and advisement have enabled others, from a wide variety of walks of life and points of view, to share their views of what it means to be a Californian.
