Bill Mueller hit a three-run homer -- one of Boston’s four home runs -- and the Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees, 11-2, Friday night in their first game at Yankee Stadium since last season’s American League championship series.

Derek Lowe took a shutout into the seventh for Boston, which blew a three-run lead in the eighth inning of Game 7 last October and lost on Aaron Boone’s homer in the 11th.

But Boston has dominated the rivalry since, winning four of five meetings this season, including three of four at Fenway Park last weekend.

Kevin Millar and Mark Bellhorn hit consecutive homers in the fourth inning, and Manny Ramirez homered in the eighth for the Red Sox, who roughed up Jose Contreras (0-2) for five hits -- two homers -- and five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Detroit 17, Cleveland 3 -- Brandon Inge had a triple and a grand slam in an 11-run sixth inning, and the Tigers took advantage of seven walks in the inning to beat the Indians in Detroit.

The Tigers led, 4-3, going into the sixth, their biggest inning since scoring 13 runs in the ninth inning of a 19-6 win at Texas on Aug. 8, 2000.

It was the most runs at Comerica Park, which opened in 2000, topping a 16-3 victory over Toronto on June 13, 2000.

Baltimore 11, Toronto 3 -- The Orioles roughed up former teammate Josh Towers (0-1) at Baltimore. Brian Roberts had three hits and two runs batted in for the Orioles, who have won seven of eight. Four of those victories have come against the Blue Jays, who are off to the worst start in franchise history (4-12).

Minnesota 7, Kansas City 5 -- Corey Koskie had a two-run triple in the eighth and a sacrifice fly in the ninth as the Twins scored six times in the final two innings to erase a 5-1 deficit at Kansas City, Mo.
