A 22-year-old suspected gunman was arrested and authorities said they were searching for five other men Saturday after two ambush attacks against sheriff’s deputies in Watts.
The attacks each involved three men and occurred moments apart, but deputies didn’t know if they were related, Deputy Carlos Lopez said.
The shootout began just before 1 a.m. when two Los Angeles County deputies driving near Anzac Avenue and 110th Street heard bullets striking near their car, Deputy Darren Harris said. The deputies got out and exchanged shots with three gunmen, Harris said.
One of the deputies was shot at as he ran in the direction of Grape Street, Harris said.
Later, a suspect identified as Ronald Thomas was found with two gunshot wounds to his lower body, Harris said. None of the deputies was shot.
