One person was killed and three others injured in a head-on collision on California 150 between Ojai and Santa Paula over the weekend, authorities said.

Jared Brian Ellis, 19, a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was killed in the accident that occurred about 7:30 p.m. Friday east of Osborn Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Ellis was a passenger in a 1995 Chrysler Sebring with two other Marines, driver James Lee Dunn Jr. and Robert Edwin Rogers III, both 19. The two were transported to Ventura County Medical Center where Rogers was treated for major head injuries and Dunn for a concussion and scrapes.

The driver of the other vehicle, Leo Nye Lockwood, 59, of Santa Paula, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the county hospital.

Lockwood was driving westbound on California 150 in his 1982 Mercedes-Benz when Dunn’s car swerved across the highway and into his path, authorities said. The front of Lockwood’s vehicle struck the front passenger side of the other car, causing fatal injuries to Ellis, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.

All of the occupants were wearing seat belts, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, authorities said. An investigation is continuing.
