St. Louis Ram running back Marshall Faulk, who has a bruised left knee that has kept him out of practice this week, will probably sit out Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after being downgraded from probable to questionable on Thursday.

Faulk had 20 carries for 13 yards the last two weeks. First-round pick Steven Jackson almost certainly will start in his place, and Coach Mike Martz said that Jackson probably should have played more the last two games.

“He’s going to carry the load this week,” Martz said. “We’ve got to give Marshall a chance to recover.”

Until now, the Rams had made no mention of Faulk’s injury. Last year, Faulk had two operations on his right knee. The injury could date to the second week of the season against the Atlanta Falcons, when he took a blow to the knee.

Trent Green skipped practice again because of bruises to his ribs and hip but has not been ruled out for Kansas City’s game Sunday at Oakland.

The quarterback’s status will be determined today, Coach Dick Vermeil said.

“He is feeling a lot better. There’s a chance he’ll practice,” Vermeil said.

If Green doesn’t start, he will be replaced by 10-year veteran Todd Collins, who has appeared in only nine games in the last seven seasons.

Cleveland Brown wide receiver Andre’ Davis will sit out the rest of the season because of turf toe and probably will need surgery.

The team put him on injured reserve. He is the seventh starter that the Browns have lost for the season.

Lorenzo Bromell was put on injured reserve by the New York Giants because of a knee injury. He is the fourth Giant defensive lineman whose season has ended because of injury.
