A 47-year-old Santa Barbara man killed this week in a two-car collision on California 126 near Piru was identified Thursday, authorities said.

David Masters lost control of his vehicle east of Center Street and crossed into oncoming traffic shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Reid. Masters’ vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Esmeralda Socorro Velasco, 19, of Fillmore.

Masters was pronounced dead at the scene, Reid said. Velasco was taken by helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries, he said.

Neither car had passengers, Reid said.

Masters was traveling to a business convention in Las Vegas, said Mike Feiler, a Ventura County senior medical examiner. The cause of the crash has not been determined, authorities said.
