Buena Park police said officers shot to death one man and wounded another Thursday night during a traffic stop.

Police tried to stop a car for an undisclosed violation near Grand Avenue and Jackson Way about 11 p.m., said Sgt. James Banks.

The driver led police on a short chase.

When the car stopped, there was a confrontation and police opened fire, killing the driver and wounding his passenger.

Police declined to provide further details or say whether the men were armed. As is customary in an officer-involved shooting, the Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating.

A spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office did not return calls seeking comment.

Police and coroner’s officials declined to identify the dead man, saying the information must come from the district attorney.

The passenger, Marcos Osario, 36, also known as Luciano Ramos, was hospitalized in stable condition.

Osario, Banks said, was arrested at the hospital on outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon and parole violations.
