An 87-year-old Riverside County man was arrested Friday after he shot a nurse at a convalescent home, authorities said.

Norman Larson of Sun City was arrested by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies called to the Ember Care Health Center in Perris, where he had been visiting a family member for several hours and apparently became frustrated at the care the relative was receiving.

“He got into a little argument and then he pulled out a handgun and shot the nurse,” sheriff’s spokesman Dennis Gutierrez said.

“There was no threat, nothing heated whatsoever.”

A woman who was visiting the nursing home said Larson threatened to shoot another nurse.

“He was going to shoot another nurse and made her get on her knees and beg for her life,” Dalis Baca told KABC-TV Channel 7.

“When she pleaded, she said it was Christmas, she had kids, please not to do it, and he let her go,” Baca said.

Gutierrez said he had no information about the alleged incident with the second nurse.

He refused to identify Larson’s relative or the wounded nurse, a woman who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

She was shot at close range in the upper body, Gutierrez said.

Managers of the 104-bed facility declined to comment.
