Loyola Marymount Is Routed by Utah State

Nate Harris scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half and had 13 rebounds to lead Utah State past Loyola Marymount, 87-42, Thursday night in the championship game of the Gossner Foods Holiday Classic at Logan, Utah.

Jaycee Carroll had 16 for the Aggies (9-3), making four of five three-point attempts. Harris pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds before leaving with about seven minutes to play. Spencer Nelson also scored 17 for Utah State.

Charles Brown scored 11 to lead Loyola Marymount (8-4) and was the only Lion to score in double figures. Loyola shot only 30% from the field, going 17 for 57. Utah State shot 69% in the second half and 65% for the game.

Loyola trailed by 22 points at halftime and never got closer. They were outrebounded, 41-21.

The Lions’ Matthew Knight came in averaging 17 points but was held to one point in the first half and three for the game.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 68, Long Beach State 62 -- Freshman Lew Finnegan came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points and made two free throws in the final minute as the Mustangs beat the 49ers in a Big West Conference game at San Luis Obispo.

Finnegan was four for seven from the field, made all four of his free-throw attempts and had four assists.

Nick Enzweiler had a team-high 16 points for Cal Poly (3-5, 1-1), Phil Johnson scored 15 and Mike Titchenal had 13.

Long Beach State (2-8, 0-2) was led by Shawn Hawkins’ 24 points. Jibril Hodges added 18 points for the 49ers, who were without Anthony Coleman, their second-leading scorer and top rebounder, because of shin splints.

Pacific 94, Cal State Fullerton 88 -- Christian Maraker scored a game-high 26 points as the Tigers beat the Titans in a Big West game at Stockton.

Guillaume Yango had 19 points for the Tigers (7-2, 2-0), who withstood a late Titan rally to win their 15th straight conference game.

Fullerton (5-4, 1-1) cut an 11-point Pacific lead to 87-86 on Ralphy Holmes’ follow shot with 1:05 left. But the Tigers were able to close it out in their highest-scoring game since 2000.

Jermaine Harper led Fullerton with 25 points. Holmes scored 23 points for the Titans, Bobby Brown had 15 and Jamaal Brown 14.

Cal State Northridge 57, UC Riverside 43 -- Thomas Shewmake had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Matadors beat the visiting Highlanders in a Big West game.

In a game marked by poor shooting, Northridge led wire-to-wire, taking a 31-16 lead into the break and leading by no fewer than seven points in the second half.

The Matadors (3-7, 1-1) shot 37.7% (20 for 53) to Riverside’s 29.5% (13 for 44).

Rickey Porter scored 13 points to lead UC Riverside (4-6, 0-2), which has lost all five of its road games this season.
