An explosion and fire killed at least six people and seriously injured three at India’s Dhawan Space Center on Sriharikota Island, off the southeastern coast.

Madhavan Nair, the head of India’s space program, said there had been no setback to India’s space program. The cause of the fire remained unclear.

Two of the dead were laborers, and officials said the others were technical staff members. Three injured scientists were flown to Madras, 60 miles away, where they were in critical condition.
