Daniel Sedin scored four goals to lift the host Vancouver Canucks to a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

Sedin completed his first career hat trick with 6 minutes 58 seconds left, giving the Canucks a 3-2 lead, and scored his fourth goal into an empty net with 34 seconds left.

On the go-ahead goal, Todd Bertuzzi dropped the puck between his legs at center ice to Henrik Sedin, who quickly snapped a pass to his twin streaking down the right wing. Sedin cut behind defenseman Jiri Fischer and drove to the net on his backhand, then flipped the puck over Manny Legace on his forehand.

Sedin opened the scoring on a nifty deflection at the side of the net in the first period, and tied the score, 2-2, on a one-timer from the slot midway through the second period.

He hit the crossbar with 3:44 to play before scoring into the empty net to give him nine goals and 13 points in the last nine games.

Defensemen Marek Malik and Nolan Baumgartner each had two assists, and Dan Cloutier made 31 saves for the Canucks.

Ottawa had not lost in regulation in nine games (6-0-1-2).

Boston 0, New York Islanders 0 -- Bad ice was the culprit in this tie. The start was delayed 90 minutes because of a hole in the ice around one of the goal creases at Uniondale, N.Y.

Rick DiPietro made 28 saves for the Islanders and Felix Potvin stopped 33 shots for the Bruins, who were shut out for the second consecutive game.

New York dropped into eighth place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind Montreal.

Calgary 2, Colorado 0 -- Martin Gelinas’ goal on a deflection ended a scoreless tie with 2:19 remaining, and Miikka Kiprusoff had 26 saves to lead the Flames at Denver.

Kiprusoff, the NHL leader in goals-against average and save percentage, posted his second shutout and fifth of his career.
