Ebell Going to Texas El Paso

Former UCLA running back Tyler Ebell will transfer to Texas El Paso and play for new Coach Mike Price, Ebell’s father, Dennis, said Thursday.

Ebell, who announced earlier this month that he would transfer from UCLA, will sit out the 2004 season and have one season of eligibility remaining.

Under new UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell, Ebell split time with Maurice Drew in 2003. Ebell gained 501 yards in 116 carries with two touchdowns. He did not play in UCLA’s loss to Fresno State in the Silicon Valley Bowl because of a shoulder injury.

In 2002, Ebell set a UCLA freshman record with 994 yards in 234 carries. He had seven consecutive games with at least 100 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.

In the only game Price saw him play in person, Ebell gained only 10 yards in nine carries in UCLA’s 48-27 loss to Washington State in 2002.
