Coach Geno Auriemma imagined that No. 4-ranked Connecticut’s visit to No. 23 Virginia Tech would be one of its toughest road stops this season.

The Hokies proved Auriemma right. They stayed close until the Huskies pulled away in the second half for a 68-50 victory Tuesday night at Blacksburg, Va.

“This is the kind of game we needed about now,” Auriemma said. “One where we had to do a lot of good things in a not-so-easy place to do those things.”

Ann Strother scored eight points during an 18-8 second-half run for the Huskies (15-2, 6-1 Big East Conference).

Virginia Tech (15-4, 4-4) was 2-0 against ranked teams and coming off a victory that knocked Boston College from the rankings.

Barbara Turner led Connecticut with 15 points. Ieva Kublina had 19 points for Virginia Tech.

There was a 24-minute power outage that momentarily darkened the arena.

No. 12 Kansas State 85, No. 16 Baylor 65 -- Nicole Ohlde scored 26 points and the Wildcats (14-3, 5-1 Big 12) never trailed in winning their 28th consecutive home game.

Emily Niemann led the Bears (16-4, 4-3) with 23 points.
