County Buys Woodlands for Public Nature Area
Nearly 1,000 acres of woodlands will be opened to the public as an undeveloped nature area, Placer County officials and environmental advocates said.
The property, which is roughly the size of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, was part of the Spears Ranch and had been used for cattle grazing.
The Spears family sold the land to the Trust for Public Land, which in turn sold it to the county’s Placer Legacy program, for $3.5 million. The family had turned down offers from developers because they wanted to preserve the land.
