A Pittsburg, Calif., man was killed Monday night in a hit-and-run incident near Baker after being ejected from an SUV in a crash that killed two others.

A driver and six passengers, all but one of whom are from England, were traveling north on Interstate 15 when the vehicle skidded, crossed two lanes of traffic and overturned into the median, a California Highway Patrol official said. Three of the passengers were not wearing seat belts and were ejected.

One of those thrown from the SUV was Derwinderject Singh Bains, 25, of Pittsburg. Witnesses told investigators that Bains was then struck by a dark-colored vehicle that left the scene without stopping, the CHP spokesman said. The other two ejected passengers survived, but sustained major injuries and were sent to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
