From Times Wire Reports

The parents of a boy who was killed after they pulled over to shoo a dog from the highway are battling more than heavy hearts -- both are unemployed and have no health insurance, though two more of their kids remain hospitalized.

Before a Fourth of July night out, Jefferson and Catherine Silveira of San Jose swung their minivan toward the shoulder of Highway 85.

According to the CHP, a pickup truck struck the minivan, killing Tomas Clinkenbeard, Catherine Silveira’s 12-year-old son. Jefferson III, 7, and Catarina, 6, were critically injured.
