Comets End Losing Streak With 97-61 Win Over Shock

Tina Thompson scored 33 points as the Houston Comets ended a five-game losing streak with a 97-61 win over the Detroit Shock on Thursday night in front of 9,409 at Houston.

The Comets set their season high in scoring without Sheryl Swoopes (sore right ankle), who dressed for the game but did not play.

Deanna Nolan had 16 points for the Shock.

Seattle 66, Sacramento 63 -- Lauren Jackson had 18 points and six rebounds in a victory in front of 11,275 at Sacramento that moved the Storm within 1 1/2 games of the Sparks for the league’s best record.

Washington 68, Charlotte 54 -- Chamique Holdsclaw had 19 points in front of 18,436 at Washington as the Mystics (9-9) equaled their win total from last season, when they went 9-25.

Minnesota 69, New York 66 -- Katie Smith scored seven points over the final two minutes in front of 12,799 at New York. The Lynx have won four in a row.

San Antonio 78, Connecticut 67 -- LaToya Thomas had a 23 points in front of 7,939 at San Antonio to help the Silver Stars end a five-game losing streak.

Spark guard Nikki Teasley was named a starter on the team of WNBA All-Stars that will play the U.S. national team Aug. 5 in New York. She will join Phoenix guard Anna DeForge, Connecticut forward Nykesha Sales, Detroit forward Cheryl Ford and Connecticut center Taj McWilliams-Franklin.
