Will Hawkish Be the Aggressor in This Trial?

Share

Hawkish, one of the best 2-year-olds in the country before he tailed off at the end of 2003, heads the second of two trials tonight for the $173,200 Golden State Derby next month. The 10 fastest qualifiers will be back Aug. 14 for the 400-yard final.

Owned by Enrique Gonzalez’s E G High Desert Farm and trained by Danny Cardoza, Hawkish, a son of Dash Thru Traffic, hasn’t been seen since he finished ninth of 10 in the Los Alamitos Million on Dec. 12. Because of earlier wins in the Kindergarten and Ed Burke Memorial, the California-bred, a five-time winner last year, would have won a $1-million bonus had he been successful in the Million.

Metallic Lion, Make It Work, Ocean Cartel, Not For Long and Corona For Me complete the field. Deeheiress, a winner when last seen on April 10, heads the first trial.
