Jermaine Dye’s sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning scored Eric Byrnes with the winning run, and the Oakland Athletics won their third extra-inning game in as many days, 2-1 over the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday night.

Dye hit a high fly to center off Terry Adams (4-4) to score Byrnes, who doubled and reached third on Scott Hatteberg’s groundout.

The A’s played their third straight extra-inning game, the club’s first time doing so since May 13, 15-16, 2001.

New York 5, Baltimore 2 -- Gary Sheffield broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-out, two-run double, and Javier Vazquez (6-4) won his third straight start, yielding two runs and five hits in seven innings to give the Yankees a sweep of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees, who have a season-high 2 1/2-game lead over Boston in the East Division, have the best record in the majors at 33-19.

Tampa Bay 5, Minnesota 2 -- Aubrey Huff hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and the Devil Rays beat the slumping Twins at Minneapolis. Held hitless for five innings by starter Johan Santana, the Devil Rays rallied to win a road series for the first time since last Aug. 26-28 at Seattle.

They arrived at the Metrodome with the worst road record in the majors, now 6-18, and took three of four to end a streak of 11 consecutive road series lost.

Kansas City 9, Detroit 6 -- Carlos Beltran is hoping June will be a bounce-back month for him. Beltran, who batted only .151 in a 12-game stretch in May, had three hits and drove in four runs at Detroit. He is hitting .435 in June, raising his average to .281.
