Wizards Move Into a Tie for First Place

Matt Taylor scored twice to lead the Kansas City Wizards to a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night in front of 10,038 at Foxboro, Mass.

Taylor put Kansas City ahead, 2-0, in the 70th minute, converting a cross from Davy Arnaud. He also had a goal in injury time.

The Wizards (6-4-3) extended their unbeaten streak to four and moved into a first-place tie with the Galaxy in the Western Conference.

It was the third consecutive loss for the Revolution, which fell to an MLS-worst 2-7-3.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute when Arnaud scored his fourth goal of the season off a rebound of Francisco Gomez’s shot.

New England closed within 2-1 in the 74th minute when Clint Dempsey scored his third goal on a diving header after a cross from Richie Baker.

The Revolution, which has scored three goals in three games, had a goal nullified by an offsides call in the 48th minute.

Washington 3, Columbus 1 -- D.C. United ended a long scoring drought with two goals from Alecko Eskandarian and one from Jaime Moreno in front of 17,176 at Washington.

Moreno’s goal ended a 271-minute dry spell for United, whose last goal was an own goal against New England on May 29. United (4-5-4) ended the Crew’s seven-game unbeaten streak.

Rookie Troy Perkins lost his third shutout on Manny Lagos’ goal in the 90th minute. Columbus dropped to 4-4-3.

Chicago 1, San Jose 1 -- Brian Ching scored in the 66th minute and goalkeeper Pat Onstad stopped Ante Razov’s penalty kick in the 86th minute to help the Earthquakes (4-3-4) tie the Fire (4-3-5) in front of 13,472 at Chicago.

Ching has an MLS-leading seven goals for San Jose.

Nate Jaqua scored for Chicago.

Colorado 1, Dallas 1 -- Jason Kreis scored his 88th MLS goal to tie Roy Lassiter’s league record to help the visiting Burn (4-4-3) to a tie in front of 9,277 at Denver.

Two minutes after Kreis’ goal, Chris Henderson scored to end Colorado’s goal drought at 360 minutes. Colorado is 2-3-6.
