O.C. Woman Walking Dog Is Struck, Killed by Pickup
A 74-year-old woman walking her dog near her Newport Beach home was struck by a truck and killed Monday evening, officials said.
Beverly Smith and her German shepherd mix were crossing the street in the 2400 block of Cliff Drive about 7 p.m. when they were hit, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Jim Kaminsky.
Smith was treated at the scene and then taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where she died, Kaminsky said.
The driver stopped at the scene, Kaminsky said. No citations were issued. The accident’s cause was under investigation.
Kaminsky added that the rainfall did not appear to be a significant factor.
The woman’s dog was reported to be in serious condition but expected to live, Kaminsky said.
