Charles Soderquist, 57; Businessman, Author, Former UC Regent

Charles J. Soderquist, a businessman and former UC California regent who wrote a book of short stories about the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region, died Tuesday at the age of 57. He died at a Sacramento hospital 12 days after suffering a brain hemorrhage, according to his family.

Starting with California Analytical Laboratories, which did environmental consulting and testing, Soderquist founded and led many companies. In 1990, he founded the Technology Development Center in West Sacramento, which aided high-tech companies in the area.

He was a trustee for Audubon California and the California Historical Society, and served on the boards of many private companies. He also was a major donor to UC Davis, where he earned his master’s and doctorate degrees after graduating from San Francisco State. He was alumni representative on the UC Board of Regents from July 1997 to July 1998.

His “Sturgeon Tales: Stories of the Delta” was published in 1998.
