No. 1 Tennessee Loses

Freshman Janese Hardrick’s layup with nine-tenths of a second left in overtime gave No. 20 Georgia a 68-66 victory over top-ranked Tennessee on Saturday night in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Nashville.

Tennessee (26-3) didn’t trail in overtime until Alexis Kendrick made a three-point shot with 45 seconds left to give Georgia (22-8) a 66-63 lead. With the score tied at 66-66 with 21 seconds left, Hardrick got the ball, dribbled around and then drove to the basket to score the winner.

Hardrick, a freshman, had missed a layup in the final seconds of a 70-67 home loss to Tennessee on Feb. 12.

Tennessee’s Tasha Butts forced overtime when she made a leaner in the lane with six-tenths of a second left.

Kendrick led Georgia with 16 points and Hardrick had nine. Shyra Ely led Tennessee with 27 points and 12 rebounds,

In today’s SEC championship game, Georgia plays No. 21 Vanderbilt, a 78-66 winner over Louisiana State.

Iciss Tillis scored 26 points to lift No. 2 Duke (25-3) to a 77-59 victory over Wake Forest (12-17) in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament at Greensboro, N.C. No. 10 North Carolina (23-5) held Virginia (13-16) to a 21.7% shooting in a 64-45 victory in another ACC quarterfinal game.... No. 7 Louisiana Tech (24-2, 16-1) won its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference regular-season title with an 81-57 victory over Tulsa (18-10, 11-7).
