A body found over the weekend in the Lockwood Valley belonged to the victim of a homicide, authorities said Monday.

Remains found wrapped in a tarp Saturday were those of a man in his 30s who had been strangled, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Eric Nishimoto. A couple who live in the area found the body in the brush just off the side of Lockwood Valley Road north of Ojai, he said.

The victim, who was not a Ventura County resident, has been identified, but his name is being withheld until relatives are notified, Nishimoto said. It was unclear how long the body had been there, he said.
