12 Arrested, 5 Injured in Melee at Corona School
Twelve students at Centennial High School in Corona were arrested Friday after a series of fights escalated into a melee.
Two students suffered minor face and head injuries that required hospitalization. Three others suffered lesser injuries and were treated at the school.
More than 20 Corona police officers were summoned to quell the scuffles that lasted about 15 minutes.
Police Sgt. Jerry Rodriguez said the brawl grew from three unrelated fights. Police were uncertain what precipitated the fights.
The 12 students were arrested on suspicion of fighting on school grounds. One male student was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and was transported to Riverside County Juvenile Hall. Another male, who police said struggled to escape the grasp of Principal Sam Buenrostro, was also arrested on suspicion of assault on a school administrator.
