Web surfers who want to ride the best waves in Los Angeles can turn to this site for a Web cam glimpse of one of the area’s most reliable wet season breaks, on the northern end of Manhattan Beach. As the site points out, “what makes El Porto pump” is a wave-channeling, deep offshore canyon also coveted by oil tankers.

The site bows to the locals by collecting choice waves, riders and wipeouts captured digitally at El Porto. It also issues periodic reports on nearby Pratte’s “Reef,” the 1994 artificial undersea sandbag creation which resulted from a legal skirmish between Chevron and the Surfrider Foundation. The site stokes hope for Pratte’s Reef with video of waves actually breaking there. All in all, it’s a good source for keeping tabs on the local action.
