Girl, 13, Shot to Death in Apartment Building
A 13-year-old girl was fatally shot early Saturday after she heard a commotion outside and opened the door of her friend’s apartment, authorities said.
Two young men chased a group into the building’s courtyard and then opened fire, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Phil Martinez.
Veronica Gonzales was shot in the doorway of the second-story apartment in the 7000 block of Chanslor Avenue, he said.
“We do not believe she was the intended victim,” the detective said. Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
