Trevor Dobson, the top singles player for Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula, will not participate in the upcoming Southern Section singles tournament. Coach Mike Hoeger said the qualifying round of the tournament coincided with college-entrance exams and a junior national tournament.

Both Hoeger and Dobson agreed that Dobson wouldn’t participate in the Bay League singles tournament, which ended on Thursday, in order to open up a postseason spot for another player. Beverly Hills’ Mike Gurman defeated Peninsula’s Whitney Reed, 7-6, 6-2, in the title match.

Peninsula (17-6) won the Bay League and will send three players to the Southern Section postseason: Reed in singles, and Garrison Comstock and Brandon Bhagat in doubles.

Dobson will be available for the Southern Section team tournament as Peninsula attempts to follow up its Division I semifinal appearance last season.
