Avengers Make Trade for Kaleo
The Avengers, in search of a replacement for quarterback Tony Graziani, have acquired veteran John Kaleo in a trade with the Austin Wranglers, an Avenger spokesman said Monday.
Graziani signed a free-agent contract with the Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul last month.
Kaleo, 33, has played for eight teams in 11 AFL seasons. He led Tampa Bay to the 2003 ArenaBowl title and played for the expansion Wranglers last season.
“He brings experience and leadership,” said John Tamanaha, the Avengers’ vice president of communications. “We’re hoping he’s the kind of quarterback that can take us deep into the playoffs.”
The Avengers acquired Kaleo by trading the rights to Sean Morey, a receiver and special teams player for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Avengers also signed former USC defensive lineman Bernard Riley.
