Charles F. Kennedy, 67; Central Park Naturalist, Wildlife Photographer
Charles F. Kennedy, 67, an amateur naturalist closely associated with Central Park in New York City, died Oct. 20 of complications from lymphoma.
Kennedy was featured rescuing a baby hawk in “Pale Male,” a documentary about a red-tailed hawk that became famous for nesting on the ledge of an apartment building near Central Park.
Born in 1937 in Iowa, Kennedy moved to Manhattan and worked at a variety of jobs.
In 1993, Kennedy retired and devoted much of his time to watching nature and capturing it in photographs as well as poetry.
He was a member of the Central Park Conservancy’s Woodlands Advisory Board and created the park’s butterfly garden.
