Costa Mesa Driver Is Killed
A Costa Mesa driver was killed and two children were slightly injured Friday when her car was hit by a pickup as she pulled out of an apartment driveway, authorities said.
Norma Guadalupe Ruiz-Zanabia, 19, appeared to have died on impact in the 4:45 p.m. crash near Victoria Street and Canyon Drive, said Lt. John Fitzpatrick of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
“Apparently she didn’t see the truck coming, and it collided into her left front driver’s door, collapsing it onto the other side of the vehicle,” Fitzpatrick said.
An infant in the back seat and a 12-year-old boy in front were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
The driver of the pickup was not cited, Fitzpatrick said. The accident remains under investigation.
