Kansas’ Mangino Is Fined $5,000

Kansas Coach Mark Mangino was reprimanded and fined $5,000 by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday for suggesting that officials deliberately tried to influence the outcome of his team’s game against Texas.

“To insinuate that games are called unfairly so that one member institution can prevail over another is irresponsible and completely baseless,” Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg said

The Rocky Mountain News reported that an independent fraud investigator hired by state prosecutors has raised questions about money handled by Colorado, its foundation and camps run by Coach Gary Barnett. Among questioned transactions were $780,000 in deposits to the Gary Barnett Football Technique School, $13,000 in “tuition” payments to the children of two assistants and a $10,000 check written to a regent.
