Precautionary Move Puts Bush Off-Limits to Contact

Top-ranked USC apparently is not taking any chances with seventh-ranked California coming to the sold-out Coliseum on Saturday.

Sophomore running back Reggie Bush spent most of Monday’s practice wearing a yellow jersey, which are worn by quarterbacks to make them off-limits to contact from defenders. Bush, who experienced shoulder soreness in the past, was not happy with the change in wardrobe.

“I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on extra benefits or an individual,” said Bush, who has caught four touchdown passes and rushed for three touchdowns. “Yellow jerseys are for quarterbacks -- and I’m not a quarterback.”

Coach Pete Carroll said Bush would not be held out of contact during the week.

“We’re just making sure nothing special happens,” Carroll said.
