Sam Cassell and the Minnesota Timberwolves apparently are back on good terms.

The veteran guard reported for Wednesday afternoon’s practice after skipping the team’s media day and first day of workouts earlier in the week. Cassell, 34, was unhappy about not getting a contract extension.

Charles Tucker, Cassell’s agent, wouldn’t comment when asked if the Timberwolves did anything to address Cassell’s unhappiness, other than to say Cassell “has a better understanding” of the team’s plans for him in the future.

Cassell’s contract calls for him to be paid $5.65 million this season and $6.1 million next season.

All-Star point guard Jason Kidd is making progress in his recovery from knee surgery, but the New Jersey Nets said there is no timetable for his return.

Kidd had his left knee re-evaluated Wednesday by the Nets’ medical staff and the team said his rehabilitation is proceeding on schedule.

Kidd underwent surgery on July 1.

Chris Webber sat out his second day of practice with the Sacramento Kings to rest his surgically repaired left knee.

Webber, who played only 23 games last season, hopes two days of rest will reduce swelling in his knee.

Last week, the forward said his knee felt strong after a summer of rest.
